We Need Your Help

he Pope House Museum Foundation was created in December, 1999, by a group of citizens with the purpose of preserving this remarkably intact 1901 home (along with many of its original furnishings and fixtures), and bringing the moving and historically important story of the Pope Family to the general public. Initial funding is being provided by a generous donation from the Evelyn B. and Ruth P. Pope Charitable Trust, but those funds are limited and quickly diminishing. The Pope House Museum Foundation Board of Trustees has adopted a plan to restore the structure to its 1919 appearance (the year Dr. Pope courageously ran for mayor of Raleigh), purchase additional land for parking and a much-needed Visitor’s Center, and establish an endowment that will insure the financial stability of the Foundation well into the future.

The projected cost to achieve these goals is $3.5 million, and to reach that amount we need your help. If you would like to be placed on our mailing list, volunteer your time or in-kind services, or make a tax-deductible donation, please contact us via e-mail, letter, telephone, or fax. We are in the process of developing a capital campaign to meet this goal, which we hope to announce in the near future.

The Pope House Museum will be the only African American historic house museum in North Carolina, and, because of the story it tells, will be unique among historic sites nationally. Please join us in this exciting endeavor of making this museum a reality, and preserving the Pope House for generations to come
